Proverbs 15:3 – "The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding
the evil and the good."
Of course, we should all look to God for our help, but do we understand that
God looks upon us? We look at a lot of things – some of the good, and some of
them bad. All the things we look at are recorded in our memories, and remain
there. This is also true with God, as our memories as well as ourselves are made
in the image of God. It is true that sin has polluted our nature, but the
principles of our existence remain the same.
I. God sees all.
A. Genesis 1:31 - And God saw every thing that he had made, and,
behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth
day.
B. The flood in Noah’s day.
1. Genesis 6:12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was
corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
2. Genesis 9:16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look
upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and
every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
C. God sees those that are not chosen.
1. Hagar - Genesis 16:13 And she called the name of the LORD that
spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked
after him that seeth me?
2. The look of God can be terrible on those that are not chosen. –
Egypt - Exodus 14:24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the
LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and
of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,
D. God sees those he has chosen.
1. Exodus 2:25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God
had respect unto them.
2. Exodus 4:31 And the people believed: and when they heard that the
LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their
affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.
3. Deuteronomy 9:27 Remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and
Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to their
wickedness, nor to their sin:
4. Deuteronomy 26:7 And when we cried unto the LORD God of our
fathers, the LORD heard our voice, and looked on our affliction, and our
labour, and our oppression:
5. Deuteronomy 26:15 Look down from thy holy habitation, from
heaven, and bless thy people Israel, and the land which thou hast given
us, as thou swarest unto our fathers, a land that floweth with milk and
honey.
E. God sees and blesses those that have doubts, fears and worries, if we
will only trust in him.
1. Gideon - Judges 6:14 And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go
in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the
Midianites: have not I sent thee?
2. Hannah - 1 Samuel 1:11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of
hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and
remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine
handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of
his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
II. God doesn’t look at things like man looks.
A. Isaiah 55:8 - For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are
your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
B. 1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his
countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him:
for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward
appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
C. God sees the true condition of mankind.
1. Psalms 14:2 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of
men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.
2. Isaiah 63:15 Look down from heaven, and behold from the
habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory: where is thy zeal and thy
strength, the sounding of thy bowels and of thy mercies toward me? are
they restrained?
3. Isaiah 66:2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all
those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look , even
to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.
D. God looks in mercy and grace toward sinners.
1. Psalms 80:14 Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down
from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;
2. Mark 10:23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his
disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom
of God!
3. Elizabeth - Luke 1:25 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the
days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.
4. Zacchaeus - Luke 19:5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked
up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down;
for to day I must abide at thy house. Has Jesus looked at you who are
a sinner?
5. God sees the "service" of all - Luke 21:1 And he looked
up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. Jesus
also saw the poor widow woman who cast in all her living.
6. Peter, when he denied Jesus - Luke 22:61 And the Lord turned, and
looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had
said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. This
is not only a condemning look, but also a look of sadness combined with
mercy.
7. Cornelius – God saw the fasting and prayer of this lost man - Acts
10:4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it,
Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a
memorial before God. God will also hear your yearnings for salvation
and will grant you salvation.
