I. Christ is the Son of God:
A. Satan – Compare Matthew 4:3,6 and Matthew 8:29 - Satan tries
to get Christ to prove what he already knows.
1. Matthew 4:3 - And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou
be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
2. Matthew 4:6 - And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast
thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge
concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any
time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
3. Matthew 8:29 - And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we
to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment
us before the time?
B. Unbelievers are in confusion – Matthew 26:63 - The Pharisees
know who Jesus Christ is, but they still want to crucify Him. …And the
high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God,
that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. 64 Jesus
saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall
ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the
clouds of heaven.
1. Note: the high priest asked if Jesus is the Son of God.
2. Jesus stated, "thou knowest", then spoke of the son of man.
3.
C. Disciples Are Without Confusion – The disciples know He is
the Son of God.
1. Matthew 14:33 - When the waters were calmed and Peter was safe on
shore, the disciples worshipped Him, declaring Him to be the Son of God.
2. Matthew 27:54 - The Centurion knew the death of Christ was different
from all other deaths he had witnessed, and declared that Jesus was indeed
the Son of God.
3. John 6:68-69 - Peter answered for all the disciples that Jesus was
the Christ, the Son of God.
D. The Lost Need To Know Who Jesus Is – The lost believe Jesus
is the Son of God to the saving of their soul.
1. Acts 8:37 - The eunuch believed Jesus is the Son of God, and Philip
baptized him because he was saved.
2. John 3:16-18 - The lost are to believe that Jesus is the only
begotten Son of God and they will be saved.
II. Christ is virgin born:
A. Isaiah 7:14 - Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign;
Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name
Immanuel.
1. Matthew 1:18 – "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this
wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came
together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost."
2. Matthew 1:20 – "But while he thought on these things,
behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph,
thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that
which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost."
a. Joseph would have put Mary away (divorced her) unless the Holy
Spirit intervened.
b. The only reason Joseph did not put Mary away is because he believed
what the angel said – that the child was conceived of the Holy Ghost.
3. Matthew 1:23 – "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and
shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being
interpreted is, God with us."
a. God is with us in the form of Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of
God.
b. No scripture could be plainer.
B. If Christ isn’t virgin born, we don’t have a Saviour. We have
never had the Son of God in our midst.
III. Christ has all power:
A. Matthew 28:18 - Jesus said He had all power before He gave the Great
Commission to His church. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All
power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
B. Luke 10:22- All things are delivered to Christ by His Father. All
things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son
is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the
Son will reveal him.
C. John 3:35 - The Father loves the Son and had given all things unto His
hands. The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his
hand.
D. John 13:3 - Because Jesus knew that all things were given into His
power, he washed the disciples feet. Jesus knowing that the Father had
given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went
to God;
1. God’s power did not make him a bully.
2. God’s power in us does not make us a bully, but humbles us.
3. Earthly power makes bullies, because there must be a continual proving
(to yourself and to those around you) that you still have it.
E. John 17:2 - God has given Jesus all power over all flesh that He
should give eternal life unto as many as God gave Him.
F. Phil 2:9 - God has given Christ a name that is above every name.
G. Colossians 1:16 - Christ has created all power and all power was
created for and by Christ.
H. Matthew 26:53 - Christ could have called 12 legends of angels to
protect Him from the cross. (A legend consisted of varying numbers of
soldiers, but during the time of Christ it probably numbered about 6,200
soldiers and 300 horses. 12 legends would amount to 78,000 soldiers and
3,600 horses.)
IV. Christ as judge: (Christ is the Son of God, the Son of Man, the
lamb, the lion and everything in between.)
A. John 5:22 - For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all
judgment unto the Son:
B. Acts 10:42 - And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to
testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and
dead.
C. Acts 17:31 - Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will
judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof
he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the
dead.
D. Rom. 2:16 - In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by
Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
E. Romans 14:10 - But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost
thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment
seat of Christ. 11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee
shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12 So then every one
of us shall give account of himself to God.
F. II Tim. 4:1 - I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord
Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and
his kingdom;
G. Rev. 5 - Jesus Christ will open the seven sealed book and judge the
world
H. Rev. 20:11-15 – The Great White Throne Judgment – Christ sits on
the throne of judgment.
