There are many laws being passed lately because the foundations are destroyed. Men are grappling with an effort to establish morality through laws because the morality of the heart, the Biblical morality, is gone.

There have been many laws passed to ensure that our senators and representatives don't have a conflicting interest, especially relating to financial gain, when they make laws governing our nation. Compare this with our founding fathers, who staked everything they owned when they signed the Declaration of Independence. They died poor, but they didn't regret giving up everything they had for the independence of this great nation. Why? Because they believed God had given them their wealth in order to finance the new nation. We have come a long way from the time when our nations leaders gave up everything to make this nation great to a time when we must pass laws to protect ourselves from our leaders. The reason for the change? Our founding fathers believed the Bible was God's Word and ought to be obeyed from the heart. Many of our present leaders are not even sure there is a God.

There have been many laws passed to protect children from physical abuse. And now, there is talk of making laws to protect children from "emotional abuse". There have been laws passed to stop wife abuse. Why do we have to have laws like that? Because the foundation is destroyed. People who believe the Bible ought to be obeyed because it is God's Word are ridiculed. While we pass laws to protect children and wives from being abused, we pass laws to protect pornography. Then we pass a law that makes rape illegal. Then we pass a law that declares the person who raped "insane", so he won't have to be punished for his crime.

It seems to me our leaders are trying to please everybody but God. They're running around like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off, passing laws to "legalize" sin. Another example is government subsidy to the alcohol and tobacco industry, while also giving money to heal the people who use these products.

Government statistics show that one out of every six Americans is "hooked" on drugs. Instead of turning to the Bible, repenting of sinfulness and asking God to forgive and heal, some government leaders are proposing we send military forces into other countries to destroy their drug crops!! It seems to me that if people in the United States would follow God's Holy Word, they wouldn't want to buy drugs, the market would dry up, and there would be no need to send military troops into other countries.

"Modern" people no longer believe the Bible is God's Word, containing everything that is needed for a happy and prosperous life. When God's Word is discarded, sin increases. We have passed laws in our country giving federal money (my tax dollars) to abort babies, when God's Word says that all human life is sacred. Instead of our nation turning to God, we pass laws stating that a girl, living in her parents home, can have an abortion without her parents consent or knowledge. Sex was created by God for the propagation of the human race, but this has been discarded with "...men working with men that which is unseemingly...", Rom. 1:27. When God sends a plague upon disobedience, our nation does not turn to God, but tries to find a cure and makes laws to protect the disobedient, allowing them more freedom than the obedient. Why? Because the foundations are destroyed.

Where did it really all start? "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood...against spiritual wickedness in high places."

Satan was the first to rebel against God. He carried his rebellion down to the Garden of Eden, persuading Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. Eve gave to Adam and the entire human race was cast into sin.

Numbers 25:1-5. Balaam was a spiritual leader in Israel, but his desire for material gain, II Peter 2:15, caused him to lead Israel into whoredom with Moab. In the plague that followed, God killed 24,000 people. Notice that Phinehas killed two leaders who were engaged in illicit sex while Israel was repenting.

What Is The Solution? Ps. 11:3, "If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?" We may not be able to do anything, but God can. We must get back to God. I know this will sound stupid to some people, some of our nations leaders, and especially stupid to the press, but the only way sane living will return to this nation is when the Bible returns. And I'm not talking about a Bible in every home or in every hand. I'm talking about a Bible in every heart. Our nation has forsaken Bible study and prayer. Let us not doubt: we will pay the price for playing with sin.
