Things To Remember

Hebrews 2:1 - Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

  1. Christ. See the context of this verse, beginning in chapter 1 and continuing in chapter 2.

    1. Matthew 16:5-12 – The disciples didn’t understand that Christ spoke to them of the doctrine of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. They thought He was speaking to them about physical bread that is eaten. It makes no difference if we all agree on a certain thing – we could all be wrong. Christ is never wrong. He is the standard we must live up to.

    2. II Peter 1:12,13 – Peter believed it was necessary to stir up the believers in the present truth, even though they knew the truth and was established in that truth.

    3. Christ is the center point of the entire Bible. Without Christ, there is no Bible, there is no truth, there is no eternity filled with happiness and bliss. When the things we do become the center point of our lives, we have missed the entire point.

  1. Hebrews 2:3 – We should remember the great salvation.

    1. neglect – not pay any attention to, to be careless about, to make light of, to neglect.

    2. Thousands of viewpoints about salvation, but really only two ways – of God, of men.

    3. Of men – be baptized, join the church, do good works, quit smoking, quit drinking, quit cussing, quit adulteries, love everybody and everything; even people and things that are wrong, all of these are works of the flesh and all these things shall die with the flesh.

    4. Of God – Total depravity (none can come – all are lost. They are so blinded, so lost, they don’t even know they are lost. That is why they believe they can come to the salvation by themselves, without God.)

      1. Romans 3:10-18 – Taken from Psalms 14:1.

      2. Isaiah 64:6 – All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.

      3. John 6:37 – All that the Father giveth shall come to the Son.

      4. John 6:44 – No man can come except it were given of the Father.

      5. Eph. 2:8,9 – Salvation is by grace through faith, not of works on the part of men.

  1. The Lord’s Church.

    1. The local church is the body of Christ, of which He is the head.

      1. Eph. 1:23 – The body of Christ is the church.

      2. Col. 1:24 – The body of Christ is the church.

      3. I Cor. 12:18 – God has set the members in the body as it has pleased Him.

      4. I Cor. 12:27 – ye (the local assembly [church] at Corinth) are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

    2. It’s not universal, nor invisible. Viewpoints: universal, visible and universal, invisible – both are wrong.

    3. The meaning of the word church has been changed from local assembly: to all the saved of all the ages, or all the saved on this earth at any given time.

  1. Scriptural Baptism.

    1. A lot of people and “churches” are baptizing for a lot of reasons. If they are baptizing for any reason except to fulfill all righteousness, they are wrong.
