Knowing the Terror of the Lord

II Cor. 5:11 - Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

It can be stated that if we don’t know the terror of the Lord we, who are saved, won’t be persuading men.

What is the terror of the Lord?
  1. Genesis 35:5 - When Israel journeyed, the terror of the Lord fell on the people around about them, so they were not under attack.
  2. Joshua 2:9 - Rahab noted that the terror of the Lord had fallen upon them, because God had given them the land.
  3. Nehemiah 1:5 - Nehemiah refers to God as a great and terrible God.

    4. Can men be persuaded?

  4. Men can’t be persuaded to trust the Lord, but they can be persuaded that they are sinners before a holy and just God, and that Jesus is the Christ, the only Saviour and Lord.
  5. Acts 18:4 - Paul "…reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks."
