Peter Sleeps

Acts 12:6

Peter was sleeping because he trusted in God.

1.      Christ had already told him he would die before the return of the Lord, even telling Peter that he would be led into places he would rather not go.  James had already been killed, and Peter fully expected to be killed right after the Jews celebrated their holy days.  This gave him peace, not anxiety.  Peter was ready to be with the Lord, counting his life as nothing at all.  He would leave his wife and children (if he had children), his parents and her parents, his business, BUT he would be with Jesus once again.  Peter had walked with Jesus for 3½ years, now Christ has gone into the heavens, and Peter is anxious to be with Him once again.  This time for all eternity.  The reason we aren’t anxious to serve God and go with Him through trying circumstances, is because we haven’t walked with Christ for 3½ years, we since then, haven’t dedicated ourselves to being faithful to Him, and therefore we aren’t willing to lie down and sleep when death comes in the morning.  We continually think of all the things on this earth we will be missing, and don’t think of the renewed relationship we will have in heaven with our dear Saviour, who loved us and gave Himself for us.

2.      Psalms 127:2 - 2  It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.  So it should be for us.  We should sleep, and let God take care of all the rest.  May God help us to trust Him.  We need His grace and mercy.
