Hebrews 1-5
Chapter 1 - All things are predetermined.
Chapter 2 - Our need to pay attention - to salvation and service.
Verse 3 - Satan gives many diversions.
Verse 8 - We see Christ in spiritual power. (We see the power of Christ as it shall be, not as it presently is.)
Verse 14 - Christ became a man.
Chapter 3 - Building a house (our lives)
Verse 3 - Israel gave more glory to Moses than Christ - their house crumbled.
Verse 6 - If - We build our own house. (It is not so much that we hold out, but as it is in John 6:68 - where else can we go?)
Verse 14 - If - See note above.
Chapter 4 - Rest in the Lord.
Verse 2 - No faith, no rest.
If - we enter into rest.
Verse 9 - A rest for the people of God.
Verse 10-12 - Rest = trusting Christ = knowledge of His Word, works and will.
Chapter 5 - Teaching the next generation.
Verse 1-4 - The high calling of priests and pastors. These verses outline what people should look for in a pastor.
Verse 11 - The author of Hebrews hesitates at this point because he knows the folks he is writing to don’t understand what he is saying. Chapter 6 states that even though they aren’t “grown up enough” to receive the message he is going to give it to them anyway. If they are truly saved, they won’t die because of strong meat. Chapter 7 - he gives them the strong meat. I am glad he continued because we need this strong meat.
